Chiefs Manawa – Pioneers of the Women’s Game
The Chiefs were the first Super Rugby franchise to champion the inclusion of a women’s team, proudly leading the way for others to follow. In 2021, the Chiefs created history by forming the Chiefs Manawa to play a one off showcase match against the Blues women at Eden Park. That moment lit the spark for what would soon become Super Rugby Aupiki, a milestone that changed the landscape of professional women’s rugby in New Zealand.
Since that groundbreaking beginning, the Chiefs Manawa have continued to represent the same values that define the Chiefs - courage, unity, and community. Though still young in years, they have become trailblazers on and off the field, inspiring the next generation of players across the Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Counties Manukau and beyond.
At Ruakura RFC, we are proud to welcome the Chiefs Manawa into our Kindred Club family. As the years progress, we look forward to seeing them strengthen their history, build their legacy, and continue to lead the way in the women’s game. Ruakura RFC is committed to honouring, celebrating, and encouraging that journey every step of the way.
Together, we are one club, one legacy, one Chiefs whānau.
