Overall results

Played 13, won 4, drawn 1, lost 8

Points for 340, against 418

Chiefs finished 11th out of 14 teams and did not make the playoffs

The Lions match remains the highest scoring Super Rugby match, although by the end it was more like a game of rippa. The halftime score was only 27-25 to the Chiefs, and while the Chiefs were never in danger of defeat (they led 65-25 with 20 minutes to play) the Lions scored four tries in the last seven minutes to claim a second bonus point.

Remarkably at Johannesburg both the Chiefs and Lions scored and conceded their highest totals, which when you think about is an incredibly difficult thing to do in the competition’s 15th season.

After the outstanding results in 2009, it was a real comedown for the Chiefs to go 0-fer from six at Hamilton; they did draw with the Cheetahs after scoring five tries, but missed all eight kicks at goal that day.
