Overall results
Played 13, won 7, lost 6
Points for 348, against 349
Chiefs finished 7th out of 14 teams and missed the semi-finals
In 2008 the Chiefs reversed the recent trend where they would have a slow first half and come home with a rush; this year they were fourth with three weeks to go but collapsed, losing to two teams well down the ladder before going under to the playoff-bound Sharks.

The Chiefs nearly got a rare season double in 2008: Lelia Masaga was the leading try-scorer in all Super 14, and Stephen Donald was the leading points scorer until Daniel Carter’s last successful kick in the final nudged his total to 154 points.
For the second consecutive season the Chiefs set a new team record for most tries in a season. The 2007 total was 43. They also set a new record for conversions in a season – the previous best was 31 in 2000 – but a low penalty goal count meant the overall points total was less than 2007 (373).
