Overall results
Played 13, won 7, drew 1, lost 5
Points for 325, against 298
Chiefs finished 7th out of 14 teams and missed the semi-finals
After the initial ten-year agreement ended, the competition expanded to Super 14 with the addition of the Western Force, based in Perth, and the splitting of the Cats into Cheetahs (Bloemfontein) and, following their 2007 name change, Lions (Johannesburg).
Despite the expansion this was a low-scoring year for the Chiefs, since no team scored more than 37 points in a match.
