Chiefs finished 6th out of 12 teams and did not make the semi-finals

 

The Chiefs set a new match scoring record against the Highlanders in the fifth match, passing the 1997 record of 47 against Gauteng. They passed the old record again in the eighth match with a score of 49 against the Bulls, before breaking their six-week old mark by scoring 51 against the Hurricanes.

The Chiefs matched their season record of six wins (set in 1996 and 1998), and also equalled their previous highest placing of sixth, in 1996 and 1999.

The 301 points scored in the season set a new Chiefs record.

In the match against the Bulls, Glen Jackson became the first player to score all four ways in a match for the Chiefs.

In the same match Jackson set a new individual match record for the Chiefs with 24 points. He had previously tied Matthew Cooper’s 1997 record of 22 points in the match against the Reds.

Three players – Keith Lowen, Danny Lee and Bruce Reihana – equalled the team record of three tries in a match during the season.

Glen Jackson set new Chiefs records for points in a match, conversions in a match, penalty goals in a match, points in a season and career points in 2001.

As well as those who played, Grant McQuoid was named in the squad but never took the field.

Chresten Davis matched Api Naevo’s 1999 feat of making all seven appearances during the season off the bench, while Tama Tuirirangi made all six of his appearances as a sub. Davis and Guy Coleman equalled the Chiefs record of seven replacement appearances in a single season.
